This programme provides the launch platform for individuals aspiring to become successful engineering managers. The programme provides you with the opportunity to gain fundamental knowledge of engineering business processes and to develop the management skills needed to operate successfully in the engineering sector, from small to medium enterprises to global conglomerates.

This course is aimed at developing managers and those with management potential who wish to follow careers in various engineering industries. It is unique in that it has been specifically designed for scientists, engineers and technologists aspiring to become engineering managers, and also for individuals with a non-technical background who wish to develop the skills to operate in an engineering or industrial environment.

Upon completion of the course you should be in a position to handle diverse management responsibilities which require knowledge in finance, systems thinking, operations, human resources, the design and management of the supply chain, product development or project management. Taught by experienced academic staff, the material is leading edge and includes a high level of industrial and business relevance throughout.

What you study
On completion of the course, you will have:
- an advanced understanding of the key strategic issues involved in developing and implementing engineering projects and solutions
- in-depth knowledge and understanding of current and emerging engineering management issues
- professional-level skills in research, analysis and evaluation of complex business problems underpinned by a methodical approach to problem solving and decision making

How you learn
The taught elements of the course are delivered by a combination of lectures, tutorials and group/seminar work delivered in block mode. The structure is designed to provide flexibility for those who are in employment and wish to study on a part-time or bite-size basis, and is also well suited for those who wish to study full time. The main campus provides access to learning resources in the award-winning University Library for assignment and masters research dissertation work, as well as access to other facilities such as the Students Union and the health and sports facilities.

How you are assessed
Assessment varies from module to module. The assessment methodology could include in-course assignments, presentations or formal examinations.

Applicants should normally have at least a UK second-class honours degree, or an equivalent internationally recognised qualification, usually in an engineering, technological or business related subject. Other qualifications and relevant experience will be assessed on an individual basis.In addition, international applicants will require an English language qualification to at least IELTS 6.0. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. Postgraduate funding support
From September 2013 benefit from a 10% fees discount towards your postgraduate taught course (part-time or full-time) if you:

* are a continuing Teesside University student progressing from an undergraduate to postgraduate course or
* have graduated from an undergraduate course at Teesside University within the last two years (2011-12) or
* graduated with first-class honours from an undergraduate course at any other university within the last two years (2011-12)
