MA History and Culture of Fashion offers a unique opportunity for you as a student to investigate fashion as a practice, object and representation in the modern period. It encourages imaginative and critical responses to the latest and most pressing issues facing fashion studies, while equipping you with the skills and the confidence to undertake substantial and self-directed research projects, representing the latest thinking in the field. Many of the tutors and guest lecturers you will meet on this course are the very people who have helped to define the field and assure its legitimacy within the academy.

Weeks 1-22: Masters Project Proposal (20 credits); Contextual Studies (20 credits); Weeks 1-12: Cultural Studies: Appropriate to Contemporary Fashion (20 credits); The Discipline of Fashion (20 credits) Weeks 13-22: Fashion in the Marketplace (20 credits); The Substance of Fashion (20 credits) Weeks 23-30: Masters Project Planning; Weeks 31-45: Masters Project (60 credits); Part Time Mode
Year One
Weeks 1-33: Masters Project Proposal (20 credits); Contextual Studies (20 credits); Weeks 1-12: Cultural Studies: Approaches to Contemporary Fashion (20 credits); Weeks 13-22: The Substance of Fashion (20 credits); Year Two
Weeks 1-3: Masters Project Proposal (continued) Weeks 4-9: Masters Project Planning Weeks 1-12: The Discipline of Fashion (20 credits) Weeks 13-22: Fashion in the Marketplace (20 credits) Weeks 10-45: Masters Project (60 credits) MA taught courses may be studied in full time or part time mode, as outlined above, or students can elect to study by Independent Project Mode on either a full time or part time basis. The Independent Project Mode is designed for students whose area of interest lies between, or crosses, subject disciplines. This would be discussed at interview. In addition, for students unable to complete the MA, there may be an opportunity to complete a Postgraduate Diploma.

You should have: * A good Honours degree in a related discipline (2:1 or above) or an equivalent qualification * IELTS level 7 or equivalent if English is not your first languageApplicants should be articulate, well-read and culturally aware individuals who are confident in being able to contribute to contemporary debate in all aspects of fashion.Related disciplines Fashion, Film, History, Sociology and other humanties subjects. Applicants will need to show a good range of research skills.Selection ProcessYou are assessed on your prior knowledge and academic achievement. You will be asked to submit a written essay along with a personal statement and references alongside your application on which invitation to interview is dependent.
