This programme is an interdisciplinary social sciences programme. You will learn how current feminist theories in dialogue with established academic disciplines have contributed to the understanding of broader social processes. You will improve your ability to critically examine, evaluate and discuss the field's most important theoretical perspectives and research results. You will be able to formulate and analyse interconnections between theory and practice concerning gender, class, ethnicity and sexuality.

You will acquire a critical social science approach which will prepare you for PhD studies as well as for professional work in a variety of fields: health, organisational management, development, communication and social policy among others.

After completing the Master of Science Programme in Social Studies of Gender, you will acquire a degree of Master of Science in Social Studies of Gender (120 credits), with a major in one of the following disciplines: Gender Studies, Development Studies, Human Geography, Education, Political Science, Social Work, Social Anthropology, Sociology, or Sociology of Law. The major corresponds to the major in the Bachelor's degree.

The medium of instruction is English. This means that lectures, seminars and examination will be in English.

The courses are studied in the following order:

* Gender, Class, Ethnicity and Sexuality, 15 credits (first half of the first semester)
* Methods for Research in the Social Sciences, 15 credits (second half of the first semester)
* Critical Feminist Perspectives on Social Theory , 15 credits (first half of the second semester)
* Courses in the theory of sciences/reserach methods, 15 credits (second half of the second semester)
* Elective courses and/or studies abroad, and/or internship, 30 credits (the third term)
* Masters Thesis in the student´s major social science discipline, 30 credits (the fourth semester)

Admission requirementsA Bachelor s degree with a major in one of the following social sciences disciplines: development studies, education, gender studies, human geography, political science, social work, social anthropology, sociology and sociology of law or equivalent. To be eligible for the programme students must also have a minimum average grade in their Bachelor s studies equivalent to 3.0 out of 4, in cumulated grade point average (CGPA), B in the American grading scale, or C in the ECTS or Swedish A-U grading scale. For the Swedish grading scale G-VG the minimum requirement is G. English 6/English Course B.Selection criteriabased on academic qualifications and a statement of purpose. The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships target highly qualified students across two categories:

Category 1: Students from the following 12 developing countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Category 2: Students with citizenship from countries on the DAC list (note there are some exceptions).
