Tourism is one of the worlds fastest growing industries. A recent study by the UNWTO estimates that tourism accounts for one in every twelve jobs worldwide. To be successful, students today need new skills and knowledge. Our one year Master program offers a high-quality experience and state-of-the-art research on a range of tourism topic areas. The program draws from the European Tourism Research Institute, which is a leading tourism research environment in Northern Europe.

The program emphasizes destination development and sustainability issues. Students learn through an interesting combination of course work, field trips, and independent research. Our students have a strong track record for qualified work and of conducting research in a global context. Degrees in the course can be taken in two disciplines: tourism studies or human geography.

The program is offered at Mid Sweden Universitys Östersund campus, which is an ideal setting to study tourism and sustainable development. As the entry to the Swedish and Norwegian mountain areas, Östersund is located in close proximity to many of the regions premier destinations. The European Tourism Research Institute contributes with contacts to current research and international networks.
