The master course ‘Horticultural Science’ is organized by an educational and scientific network of five European universities. The program offers a research oriented education in horticulture and adjacent fields. The first semester is uniformly designed at all participating universities. Afterwards, two international orientated semesters follow in which students can choose individually from a broad range of courses from the participating universities. A minimum of 30 credits has to be obtained abroad at a partner university.During the fourth semester students work on their thesis. The subject can be chosen by themselves, but the students can gather inspiration from a concrete scientific problem complex from actual research projects. The thesis will include experimental and analytical work and can be a major part of the students professional profile applying for their first job.

TUM contributes strongly to teaching and research with its specialities in applied, modern plant sciences. Based on plant biology education is offered in horticultural plant breeding, phytopathology, plant nutrition, growth and crop physiology, ecophysiology, developmental regulation and biotechnology. Moreover, students gain competences in horticultural economy, research management, production technology and crop quality, thus, qualifying the graduates for leading positions in research and horticultural enterprises.

The consortium consists of TUM, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem. Since 2008 the program has been promoted to an ERASMUS MUNDUS master course.
