The Department of Educational Leadership offers several degrees within two programs: educational leadership, and adult and continuing education. Courses leading to the Masters degree and Ed.D. degree in Educational Leadership may also lead to licensure as a building administrator (principal) or a district school administrator (superintendent). Cooperation with other departments in the College of Education allows the department to offer additional licensure, such as special education directorships. Other leadership positions in educational organizations are also enhanced by masters and/or doctoral degrees in educational leadership.

Three degrees are offered within the adult and continuing education program, including: (1) the Master of Science in Adult and Continuing Education, designed to prepare practitioners for careers in a variety of adult education settings; (2) the Ph.D. in Adult and Continuing Education, designed to prepare scholars for careers in college and university settings; and (3) the Ed.D. in Adult and Continuing Education, designed to provide advanced education and experience by preparing people for work in business, industry, government, health services, community agencies, and careers in two- and four-year colleges and universities.

Courses focus on issues related to planning, developing, delivering, or facilitating instruction for adult learners. Courses in the adult education program also support the masters degree, Ph.D. and Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. The graduate programs are compatible with a variety of delivery settings where the following specializations and support areas are required or desired: adult and continuing education, extension education, human resource development, community education and development, and institutions, agencies, and organizations that deal primarily with adult needs and education.

Requirements

An applicant to the Graduate School at Kansas State University must have a bachelor's degree substantially the same as the ones granted by Kansas State University. That is, it must represent a broad range of courses in the basic academic disciplines. Applicants whose degrees do not meet these standards may be denied admission to graduate degree programs at Kansas State University.

Admission is denied to applicants holding bachelor's degrees with a significant amount of credit for work that was not supervised by a faculty member of an accredited college or university or evaluated in units that identify the academic content. A limited amount of credit for experience, when awarded as an acceptable part of a bachelor's degree for internships, fieldwork, or the like, is not a cause for denial but must be clearly identified as graded work.
