Description

The BA Primary Education (non-QTS) programme aims to educate students about primary education in an educational context that is evolving and changing in response to changes in society, government initiatives and technological advances. We aim to educate autonomous and independent students who have the ability to evaluate. They will also be able to critically reflect upon professional practice that they observe or participate in.

The programme is designed to take two years. This will be attractive to those students seeking a three-year entry route into teaching, the last year of which could be salaried (School Direct) or attract a bursary (PGCE). The programme is designed to feed into these routes.

Successful students will be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about current early years and/or primary education, and will very well-placed to progress into Teach First, School Direct or employment-based routes into teaching. The programme is also designed to feed in to our existing PGCE programme (although no guarantee of progression could be made). Students considering becoming High Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) would also find this programme attractive, as would students seeking to progress into further study at level 7.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To offer a two-year honours degree
  • To make students knowledgeable about current practice in primary schools and early years
  • To give students the opportunity to reflect upon their own experiences in schools.
