Description

The importance of exercise and nutrition on human health and performance is becoming increasingly recognised by the government, employers and the general population. Exciting opportunities exist in the fitness, health and nutrition sectors, and there is an increasing demand by employers for graduates with expertise in exercise science and nutrition.

This programme provides a unique inter-disciplinary approach to study the science of sport, exercise and nutrition. It focuses on the fundamental areas of human physiology, biochemistry and psychology, and this knowledge is then applied for the physiological and nutritional assessment of different groups and athletes. The importance of diet and physical activity on the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease will be explored, as well as the role of nutrition for enhancing sports performance.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To gain an understanding of the science relating to exercise and nutrition
  • To understand the interrelationship between exercise and diet in the prevention of disease as well as enhancing sport performance
  • To gain relevant academic, professional and laboratory skills for future employment in these interrelated fields.
