Sunderland Business School received top ranking in the North East from the Guardian University Guide 2012, and 85% of our business graduates enter employment or further study within six months of graduating, according to the Destination of Higher Education Leavers Survery 2010.

Sunderland is one of the first universities in the UK to introduce employability modules across all years of an undergraduate degree. These help you strengthen the six key attributes of being capable, enquiring, creative, enterprising, ethical and global in outlook. The modules also help you identify your strengths and aspirations, and plan for personal development.

We encourage our students to undertake a year-long placement between the second and final years, although it is not compulsory. It's a great opportunity to get paid to put your learning into practice and to extend your experience.

There are two start dates for this course: September and January.

Year 1 (national level 4)

• Contemporary Debates in Business Management (20 Credits)

Note: After Year 1, if you decide that you would prefer your studies to be more specialised, it’s possible to transfer to other courses within the suite such as Business and Financial Management or Business and Marketing.

Year 2 (national level 5)

• Introduction to Strategic Management (20 Credits)
• Developing Career Prospects (20 Credits )
• Responsible Business (20 Credits)
• PLUS a choice of up to 60 credits from a range of topics relating to business functional areas, such as Management Accounting, Marketing Management, Business Law or Business Enterprise Management

Year 3

• Work placement (optional)

Final Year (national level 6)

• Applying Critical Reflective Practice (20 Credits)
• Strategic Management (20 Credits)
• Plus a choice of up to 40 credits from a range of topics relating to business functional areas, such as Management Accounting, Marketing Management or Business Enterprise Management

Plus one of two options:

• Business Research Dissertation (40 Credits)
• Critical Debates in Professional Practice (40 Credits)

Requirements

Our typical offer will be in the region of 260 points from a minimum of two A Levels or equivalent (for example 1 x AVCE double award).

We accept a maximum of 20 points from Level 3 Key Skills qualifications.

We also require three passes at GCSE grade C or above, which must include Mathematics and English Language, or a minimum of Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number.

Other acceptable qualifications

BTEC National: 260 points from a BTEC Certificate or Diploma.

Access Courses: We would require successful completion of an Access to Higher Education course that is accredited by the Quality Assurance Agency. We would also require a minimum of grade C in GCSE in Mathematics and English Language or the equivalent as part of your course.

Scottish Highers: Our typical offer is for 260 points.

Irish Leaving Certificate: Our typical offer is for 260 points.

Work Experience

No work experience is required.
