Description

This programme has been developed to meet the demand for entrepreneurial, creative and strategic managers in the international hospitality industry. You will gain a critical understanding of the challenges facing managers in hospitality and acquire a set of tools and strategies for overcoming them. You will explore this diverse industry through international case studies, practical group work, business challenges and interactive workshops. You will graduate with skills in marketing, human resources, revenue management, technology and event management.

The first year of the programme will give you an introduction to the hospitality industry and an understanding of the global context in which it operates. You will begin to learn how to take an entrepreneurial approach to management and how to use the latest technologies to do this. You will also plan your own personal and career development.

In the second year, you will develop your understanding of the principles of human resource management and marketing. You will also learn how to plan and stage a live event. You will acquire research skills that will prepare you for your final-year project and support you to carry out research for your future career in management. During the second year, you will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the industry by undertaking a work placement in the hospitality industry.

In the final year, your courses will focus on taking a strategic and innovative approach to hospitality management, including developing your skills in finance and product design. You will also undertake a research project in which you will analyse a complex business problem and apply your knowledge to suggest innovative solutions.

We have designed the degree in consultation with employers, and you will have the opportunity to gain significant industry experience through practical work placements. All students will complete a work placement in the hospitality industry.
