Description

Dramatic events in the financial sector have shown how vulnerable individuals and organisations are to mismanagement of finance, investment and risk, and the importance of getting it right.
Our BA (Hons) Finance, Investment and Risk degree is designed to enable graduates to succeed in the dynamic, fast-moving financial services industry, which employs around 96,000 people directly and over 70,000 indirectly in Scotland, and accounts for 9% of total employment.
With more than £750bn of assets currently under management in Scotland, the country is recognised internationally as the most important UK financial hub outside London and the South East, and both Glasgow and Edinburgh are amongst the top 10 European financial centres.
Our programme focuses on the key areas of personal finance, corporate finance and investment, risk, and banking and international finance, but also includes general business subjects to provide you with a specialised, but rounded, programme of study. Options starting in Year 2 enable you to concentrate in one or more areas of expertise depending on your interests.
In addition to gaining specialist knowledge and expertise, you will have the support of a career’s tutor who will help you secure work experience developing your future career path and improving your employability.
Our degree has built a strong reputation amongst employers and has a tradition of enabling graduates to gain exemptions from various professional examinations which is a real advantage when seeking employment. Our academic staff have close contacts with industry and the programme benefits from industry support in course development and delivery. GCU is one of a very few University's to be named a 'Centre of Excellence' by the UK's Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).
As the former Head of Scottish Enterprise's Financial Services Team commented: '...the degree course provides students with the right skills for challenging and rewarding careers in the financial services industry and demonstrates best practice in education and industry links.'
