Course Content

Course Aims

The Bachelor of Computer Science component will equip students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue a range of information technology related career paths and/or postgraduate study. The study of a major will enable students to attain and demonstrate knowledge and skills in a specialised area of computer science and its applications.

The Bachelor of Laws component provides:

(i) an understanding and knowledge of Australian law and to develop skills which will enable students to use their legal knowledge both within the legal profession or in other areas where legal skills can be employed; and

(ii) the knowledge and skills applicable to a career in the financial services industry; in particular, the focus is on financial planning tax and law.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • BLaws component: critically understand a wide range of legal concepts, values, principles and rules of the law relevant to the course;
  • compose a clear, coherent and logical argument, to communicate it effectively through both the written and spoken word, to defend it against criticism, as well as being able and willing to recognise potential alternative conclusions for particular situations;
  • develop an interest in, and positive attitude towards, the appropriate development and reform of the law, and the intellectual integrity and independence of mind to challenge orthodoxy and to stand up for a personal conception of what is right, whilst also being self-critical and open to alternative views;
  • demonstrate a thorough grounding in the theory of finance and financial planning;
  • show the application of theory of finance and financial planning; and
  • apply their knowledge to real world problems and projects.
  • BCompSc component: apply skills and knowledge in algorithm design, program construction, software project management and software engineering;
  • meet professional standards of software development including technical skills, documentation, software quality, collaboration and ethics;
  • demonstrate skills and knowledge in a specialised area of computer science and its applications;
  • communicate and work effectively as part of a team involved in an information technology project; and
  • adapt to the rapidly changing information technology landscape through proficiency in the fundamental knowledge and techniques attained during the course.
