Description

The BSc(Hons) Audio Technology with Electronics is designed to give a firm grounding in audio with an emphasis on the technology and engineering that features in audio equipment and software. Drawing on the established engineering and audio expertise within the University, the programme covers the audio signal path from the recording process, through mixing and mastering, to distribution and transmission both from practical and theoretical standpoints. As the focus of the programme is on audio, opportunities will be given to acquire appropriate audio production skills in the university’s specialist studio facilities using a range of industry standard equipment and software. The other principle areas covered in the programme are that of acoustics both in relation to audio production and to musical instruments, digital signal processing, audio software design and development, physical computing and audio interface design and electronic engineering.

Course Content

Year 1: Sound Production 1, Introduction to Audio Technology, Digital Electronics, Analogue Electronics, Digital Media Techniques, Mathematics 1, Integrated Project 1. Year 2: Sound Production 2, Sound reinforcement, Musical Acoustics, Electrical Principles and Circuit Theory, Signals and Electronic Systems, Integrated Project 2. Year 3: Audio Processing and Effects, Audio and Interactivity, Signals and Electronic Systems Design, Mathematics 2, New Venture Creation, Group Project OR Volunteering in a Technical Role. Year 4: Honours Project / Honours Research and Project Methods, Acoustics and Spatial Sound, Advanced Audio Processing, Audio Software and Equipment Interface Design, Digital Signal Processing.
