Course Content

Our graduates

We prepare our students to become accomplished Industrial Engineers with the required set of skills for systems thinking, analysis and problem solving;

We prepare our students to achieve leadership through a broad range of academic, business, and government professional opportunities;

We help our students to develop effective communication skills;

We prepare our students to active life-long learning;

Our graduates will have a strong foundation in mathematics, in the sciences and engineering, and they will have the ability to apply the concepts and techniques learned to the IE domain.

Academic Program

The Industrial Engineering Program offers courses on the necessary mathematical foundations (calculus, probability and statistics), physics, computer programming, operations research techniques, decision support systems, quality control, supply chains, engineering economy, and financial management. The first (freshman) year builds the necessary foundations in mathematics, physics, and computing, and it also provides an introduction to IE. In the second (sophomore) year, students advance their mathematical skills and start working on the foundations of IE, including the basics of engineering economy, manufacturing and service operations management, probability theory, statistics, and operations research. Additionally, our students gain early business awareness through entrepreneurship courses and introductory sectoral courses covered in the first two years. Students who have completed the required courses in the first two years of the undergraduate program start an internship program to familiarize themselves with various industrial sectors. In the third (junior) year, students can choose from a set of elective courses to acquire in-depth information on a variety of specialization tracks: these include transportation and logistics, manufacturing and service operations management, finance, and decision support systems. Following a second summer internship, our elective courses in the fourth (senior) year introduce students to advanced and up-to-date IE methods and technologies. The program concludes with a two- semester design course in which students apply principles and knowledge acquired through the curriculum, to analyze and solve an actual industrial problem.

Areas

The IE degree program focuses and excels on four specialization tracks: Decision Support Systems, Finance, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and Transportation and Logistics. Optimization serves as the technical backbone of all four specialization tracks: it is one of our strongest areas of expertise, with worldwide recognition in areas such as Logistics, Game Theory, Airline Operations, and Global (Nonlinear) Optimization.
