Description

The Quantity Surveyor (QS) is a key professional member of the construction team with a growin role in the wider property field. A QS is a construction economists for building and civil engineering projects. They prepare life-cycle cost forecasts, advise on the cost of construction and on contractual arrangements from the inception of a project to its final completion. The Quantity Surveying programme is long-established and has, over the years, developed very strong links throughout the construction industry. Graduates are in high demand by both local and national employers. Due to its first class reputation, many overseas students choose to study on this programme. This introduces a global perspective to the programme, allowing students to benefit from the sharing of knowledge from different cultures and economies. Full-time Quantity Surveying students at Year 3 participate in an annual Interact design project, working with architecture students from The Glasgow School of Art (Mackintosh School of Architecture), and Engineering students from the University of Glasgow and the University of the West of Scotland. This unique competition provides an opportunity for students to experience working as part of a design team to develop a network of contemporaries and participate competitively in solving a specific design problem. This programme is accreditated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). This accreditation is essential for those wishing to continue to Chartered Quantity Surveyor status.
