General Studies (Semester-Based)

Description

You can earn your Bachelor of General Studies degree by taking online courses during the semester schedule. This means that you can work toward your degree from anywhere - at the time and place of your choice!

Depending on your goals, you can complete one course every semester, or you can earn your degree faster by taking more than one course each term…it’s up to you!

The Bachelor of General Studies focuses on your intellectual growth through study in the liberal arts:

Bachelor of General Studies - Independent Study Option

You may also work toward your Bachelor of General Studies through Independent Study by completing self-paced, college courses online or by correspondence from the University of North Dakota.

Course Content

With a Bachelor of General Studies you will experience a broad, multi-disciplinary education through the completion of traditional liberal arts courses.

• Complete a total of 125 semester credits (36 of which must be of a 300 level or above) through a regionally accredited institution
• Minimum of 30 semester credits completed through the University of North Dakota
• 60 semester credits completed through a 4-year college or university
• Maintain a 2.0 GPA
• Complete 39 semester credits of Essential Studies Requirements
• Follow curriculum approved by the UND College of Arts & Sciences

The General Studies advisor, Tom Rand, Associate Dean, will help you select a course of study that is approved by the UND College of Arts & Sciences.

Accreditation

The University of North Dakota as a whole is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. UND has been accredited since 1913, when the Association was first organized.

Accreditation assures the quality of higher education institutions and programs. In the United States, accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental, peer-review process that determines if established quality standards are being met.

• Accreditation is a major way for students, families, employers, government officials, and the media to know that an institution or program provides a quality education.
• Accreditation helps students choose quality college programs that qualify for federal financial aid.

Will the credits earned at UND transfer to another school?

The transfer of credits is always at the discretion of the institution to which the credits are being transferred. In general, credits that are regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission transfer to other regionally accredited institutions.
