Description

Personal interviews will be required of applicants being considered for admission. The interview will serve to determine the applicant's emotional and intellectual maturity, ability to communicate and potential to achieve career satisfaction within the Physician Assistant role. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale where 4.0 equals an "A." In cases whereindividuals may show high potential by improved performance, exceptions to this requirement may be considered.

Please note that acceptance by the School of Arts and Sciences does not guarantee acceptance by the professional program. Students who are accepted into the professional program will begin this phase at the beginning of their senior year. At the end of the senior year, these students will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree conferred by the School of Arts and Sciences. After completion of the remaining two years of the Physician Assistant program, graduates will receive a Master of Science degree awarded by the School of Health Related Professions. The professional program would be based in Piscataway.

Course Content

The purpose of the BA/MS Combined Degree Program is to offer undergraduates an opportunity to enter the PA Program prior to their college graduation. The program is a 3+3 program with the first three years spent as an undergraduate and the last three years spent in the professional graduate program.

Requirements

In order to qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • They must be currently enrolled in their fourth term (semester) at the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS)
  • At a minimum, they must be enrolled for one year at RU-NB, earning 30 credits
  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • They must have completed, with a grade of “C” or better, at least one term of English (3 credits must be composition), Precalculus level math or higher (does not include Statistics), General Biology I and II with lab, General Chemistry I and II with lab, Organic Chemistry I (If the student accepts AP credit, particularly for science classes, additional science courses will be required) and General Psychology
  • Prior patient contact experience is considered desirable and applicants with such experience will be given priority consideration but not to the exclusion of applicants without such experience. Physician Assistant shadowing is strongly encouraged
