Description

Students majoring in Biology may select the general biology degree or they can choose from two areas of specialization depending upon their particular interest and goals. Each of the specializations has a set of core courses plus a list of elective courses that are pertinent to that specialization. Whether students choose a specialization or not, they select a required number of courses from the elective list, and thereby, are able to tailor their education to their specific career goals.

  • If no specialization is declared students will focus on general biology which includes a balance of cell, molecular, and organsimal classes. Students select from microbiology, botany and animal based classes based on their desired career path.
  • Pre-professional specialization is designed for students planning to apply to health-related pre-professional programs (i.e. pre-chiropractic, pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, pre-optometry, pre-occupational therapy, pre-physical therapy, pre-physician assistant, and pre-mortuary).
  • Secondary Education specialization provides students with the background needed for a successful career teaching biology in middle and high schools.
