Description

The great strength of the joint honours in Archaeology and Anthropology is its interdisciplinary content that allows you to acquaint yourself with different societies in the present and the past. Anthropology assists archaeology in addressing the big question – what makes us human? Both are the study of human beings: how we evolved, why we live in different sorts of societies around the world, and how we interact with one another and the environment. An exciting and varied subject, anthropology and archaeology cover a huge range of topics including human evolution, primatology, genetics, reproduction, identity, nutrition, medicine, religion, kinship, politics, heritage and development.

You will study archaeology in the Department of Classics and Archaeological studies, with a focus on the Graeco-Roman world, including art and architecture, history, languages and philosophy – and the way they all connect in the study of ancient civilisations, including those of Egypt, Greece, Rome and their neighbours. At Kent, you also have the opportunity to learn Latin or Ancient Greek, which are taught at beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.

You have the opportunity to participate in excavations and do internships in heritage management programmes.
