Depending on your goals, you can complete one course every 9 months, or you can earn your degree faster by taking more than one course at a time its up to you!

Course Content
With a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science you will experience a broad, multi-disciplinary education with a concentration in the social sciences. The program lets you achieve moderate concentration in one field and complementary work in all others.
- Complete a total of 125 semester credits (36 of which must be of a 300 level or above) through a regionally acreddited institution
- Minimum of 30 semester credits completed through the University of North Dakota
- 60 semester credits completed through a 4-year college or university
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA
- Complete 39 semester credits of Essential Studies Requirements
- Follow curriculum approved by the UND College of Arts & Sciences with 60 semester credits in select courses from:
- Anthropology
- Economics
- Geography
- History
- Political Science
- Psychology
- Sociology

Independent study courses give you the opportunity to earn your bachelor's degree by taking self-paced college courses when, where, and how you want! You may enroll at any time and have up to 9 months to complete each course.
Adult Learners
If you are an adult learner juggling the responsibilities of family or work, independent study courses give you the flexibility you need to pursue your educational and career goals.
You choose the pace. You choose the space. You dont need to worry about missing your childs soccer game because you need to be at a 2-hour class every Thursday night. If youre going out of town on business, you can take your exam next week...or even next month.
Keep in mind that independent study courses have similar course content and rigor as traditional on-campus classes. Depending on your other commitments and responsibilities, we recommend that you only take one or two courses at the same time.

Accreditation
The University of North Dakota as a whole is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. UND has been accredited since 1913, when the Association was first organized.

A degree from the University of North Dakota is accredited, regardless of the delivery format of the program. UNDs independent study courses have similar course content and rigor as traditional courses. They are written and taught by UND faculty members.
Your transcript and diploma will look no different than a student who graduated from UND with the same degree by taking traditional, on-campus courses.
