The programme is designed for students who have an interest in human biology and biomedical issues and who wish to develop technical laboratory skills related to modern cell and molecular biology. The programme is a continuation of the education for students with completed bachelor degrees in biomedicine, or who have a similar educational background from a university or other institution of higher education, and want careers in research and development, management or course activities.

Obtaining a Master of Biomedicine will qualify graduates to work in research and development within the biomedical sciences, as well other areas of clinical laboratory sciences. It will also provide career options related to the translation of knowledge and methods of medical subjects and bioprospecting. The programme also has an important function in training candidates qualified for PhD degrees. The programme will shed light on contemporary problems and methods in biomedicine. Candidates will also be trained in experimental work as well as written and oral presentations of independent scientific papers. By implementing the programme courses in English, the Faculty of Health Sciences also offer this programme as an international Master of Science in molecular medicine.

Admittance to the Master's degree in Biomedicine requires a bachelor's degree, obtained mag-degree, second degree or higher education of minimum 3 year's duration or degree in biomedicine. An additional requirement is a specialization in biomedical topics worth a minimum of 80 ECTS. Students will also have completed practical laboratory courses in biochemistry, cell- and/or molecular biology, and are expected to have previous experiences with laboratory work. Bachelor of Pharmacy, Medicine or Dentistry does not fulfil the admission requirements.Admittance to the Master's degree in Biomedicine also requires a grade average of minimum C (64% and above). Second Class Lower Division grades are not sufficient for admission. Applications sent via agents are not accepted.
