Staffed by research-focused academics, the Master of Science has advanced papers in applied mathematics, applied probability, astronomy, computer science, modelling and the emerging field of analytics. This is your opportunity to engage in modern research, and be exposed to advanced computer, mathematical and analytical methods. The curriculum is modern, relevant and wide-ranging, and accesses our outstanding facilities, including the two radio telescopes at Warkworth and high performance computing systems.

Structure

Most papers last one semester. Students must complete 120 points each year (240 points for the entire qualification).

Year 2
MATH989 Thesis (120 points)

Applicants transferring from the AUT Postgraduate Diploma in Science or Bachelor of Science (Honours) (or equivalent) must meet a minimum B grade average prior to commencing the thesis paper MATH989.

*Enrolment subject to approval of the programme leader.

 

Entry requirements

In order to be admitted to the Master of Science an applicant must have completed the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences or Bachelor of Science with a B grade average or higher in papers at level 7, or equivalent.

  • Tuition fee for Study Abroad: NZ$12,500 per semester
  • Enrolment fee: NZ$150
  • Learner services levy: NZ$320.08 per 60 points
  • Placement fee (internship option only): NZ$800
  • AUT Insurance Premium: NZ$294.50 per semester

Other compulsory fees (in addition to tuition fees)

  • 2016 Compulsory Student Services Fee - $573.30 for 120 points or $4.77 per academic point (GST incl)
  • 2016 Building Levy- $66.85 for 120 points or $0.56 per academic point (GST incl)
