The Master Programme in International Health prepares you for leadership in promoting global health. This program equips you with skills to appreciate and analyse global health problems and to develop and evaluate actions to improve public health. The programme is composed of compulsory and elective courses and includes planning, performing, analysing and reporting an independent research project in the field of global health.

Career

The Master Programme in International Health prepares you for work within the area global public health. There are job opportunities within governmental and non-governmental organizations, nationally and internationally. The focus is on public health, health planning, general development and on humanitarian action. After the Master degree you may also continue with studies at PhD level.

Degree

The programme leads to a Master of Medical Science (120 credits) with International Health as the main field of study.

After one year of study it may also be possible to obtain a Master of Medical Science (60 credits).

Year 1

During the first semester you will get an overview of the field of global health, and touch upon areas such as global nutrition, child health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, public health in humanitarian action. Part of the semester you will also focus on research methods, both qualitative and quantitative.

During the second semester you will have time to focus, and deepen your knowledge within child health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, public health in humanitarian action and public health nutrition.

Year 2

During the third semester you have the opportunity to choose courses. You can focus on qualitative or quantitative research methods, on health programme management, do a literature review and follow a seminar series in critical reading in global health. If you want to collect new data for your master thesis it is also possible to take a course in field research in global health.

During the fourth semester you will focus entirely on your master thesis. This includes in-depth studies within a chosen area, report writing and presentation of the report at a seminar. During the semester you will have a number of group supervisions in the form of seminars.

Bachelor degree, equivalent to a Swedish degree of at last (i.e. three years of full-time study), in medicine, nursing, nutrition or other fields relevant for international health.Proof of skills in English to a level corresponding to English B in the Swedish secondary school. This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognised test with the following minimum scores:IELTS: an overall mark of 6.5 and no section below 5.5TOEFL: Paper-based: Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test and a total score of 575. Internet-based: Score of 20 (scale 0-30) in written test and a total score of 90Cambridge: CAE, CPESelectionSelection will be based on previous academic studies and degrees, previous professional experiences and a statement of intent. Uppsala University provides several different scholarships for students. The scholarships cover exclusively the tuition fees for courses within the programme, i e 30 credits per semester.
