The Asian Business Studies (ABS) stream is designed to cultivate Asia-adept business professionals by exposing students to Asian cultures and business practices focusing on China and Japan, with Hong Kong as their intermediary. Students develop a global mindset through exchange programs where they are resident in Shanghai and Tokyo at the renowned partner universities Shanghai Jiao Tong University# and Waseda University, respectively.

Graduates of the Asian Business Studies will develop:

  • understanding of international business with an Asian regional focus spanning across China, Japan and Hong Kong;
  • understanding of inter-cultural business practices in the three regions;
  • language proficiency in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese;
  • understanding of local culture in Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong through studying and living in each region for a term.

Requirements

  • Year 1 (and Year 2^) students (4-year curriculum) of any program offered by CUHK Business School;
  • Cumulative GPA 3.3 or higher;
  • Satisfactory score in either the TOEFL (Paper: 600 / Computer: 250 / Internet: 100) or IELTS (7.0 or above);
  • Academic results achieved prior to entering CUHK will also be taken into consideration;
  • Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed.
  • ^ For academic year 2015-16 only, ABS is also open to Year 2 students (4-year curriculum) of any program offered by CUHK Business School. However if your expected term of graduation is Term 2 of 2017-18, note that your final term of your final year (i.e. Term 2 of 2017-18) will be on exchange to Waseda University. For final year students, you must extend your study period at CUHK before commencing the graduation term by applying with and submitting the required form to our Program for endorsement. By accepting ABS' admission offer, you acknowledge your acceptance that your graduation will be deferred, i.e. you will graduate after 2018. You should also make in advance a well thought through and circumspect study plan for the terms leading up to your graduation.

  • You will need to pay a Non-refundable application fee of HK$450 for 2016 entry via ON-LINE payment by either VISA or MASTERCARD through our Online Application System at the time of submission.
