This Masters programme focuses on the design of embedded systems: the hardware and software that control a device, process or system, e.g. smart phones, pacemakers, chip sets or navigation systems.
An embedded system is a combination of hardware systems (electrical engineering) and software systems (computer science) built into equipment that we dont always recognize as being computerized, such as the systems that control a cars anti-lock brakes, the automatic pilot of an aircraft or the sensors and filters used in processing plants. Embedded systems call for real-time operation, reliability, maintainability and cost-effectiveness, which places heavy demands on software (user interfaces, data processing, machine control) and hardware (I/O, Asics, DSP, FPGA). This English-taught Masters programme in Embedded Systems focuses on the design of embedded systems, e.g. system validation, quantitative evaluation of embedded systems, electronics, maths, embedded computer architecture and how to create a system on a chip. Youll be challenged by topics ranging from control engineering, integrated circuit design and computer architecture, to communication networks, real-time operating systems and software engineering. Our graduates have excellent career prospects. Theres a great need for engineers with skills that bridge the gap between hardware and software.
