The one-year International Master’s Program in Holocaust Studies at the University of Haifa is dedicated to creating and nurturing a new generation of Holocaust researchers and educators.The program aims at providing students with more than just an academic curriculum; it has been designed with the addition of exciting and challenging activities to spark the interest of the student and encourage personal development and dedication to the field of Holocaust research

Multi-disciplinary

The program offers courses in history of the Holocaust period and WWII, psychological aspects of trauma, anthropology of memory, genocide and crimes against humanity as well as cultural expressions of the Holocaust in Film and literature

Internship

An internship in a Holocaust museum, archive or research center will help you familiarize yourself with career opportunities in the field of Holocaust Studies and determine what interest this field holds for you.

Study tour

Seminars at Yad Vashem and the Ghetto Fighters House Museum are an integral part of the program as well as an organized study tour to Poland or Germany which will include visits to historical sites, museums and research centers

The program has two tracks of study:

Track A – which includes the writing of an M.A. thesis – with a total of 32 weekly hours per semester

Track B – where students take a final exam – and with a total of 38 weekly hours per semester

Supplementary course: Introduction to Holocaust*

*required course for students without a prior academic background in the history of the Holocaust

1. An undergraduate degree in the humanities or social sciences from a recognized university in Israel or abroad with a final grade of 80 or more (Israeli system) or 3.0 GPA.2. Candidates, who have not previously studied at an institution of higher education where the language of instruction is English, must submit official TOFEL scores or equivalent.3. Students, who do not have a background in the study of History of WWII or the Holocaust, will be requested to complete an on-line introduction course.
