In crafting the Ross class, the Admissions Committee seeks to bring together talented students from a broad range of academic and professional backgrounds to create a rich environment in which students challenge and learn from one another. We review each application holistically. No one factor – GPA, GMAT/ GRE score, or years of work experience — will make or break your application. We will use all the components of the application to get to know you as a person and as a professional. We will review your application with three broad criteria in mind.

Intellectual ability – The Ross emphasis on action-based learning means that our students are active participants in the classroom. So besides looking for people with successful academic track records, we want students who are excited about taking a role in their own learning. To gauge your potential to be successful at Ross academically, we will assess:

  • your ability to succeed academically
  • the degree to which you have challenged yourself throughout your education
  • your quantitative background – we expect that all incoming students will have a working knowledge of college-level mathematics
  • your English language abilities

Interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills – Our culture at Ross is highly collaborative and student driven. Our students must be effective communicators, open-minded, culturally sensitive, and self-aware. We will evaluate:

  • your ability to work collaboratively
  • your potential to thrive in an extremely diverse environment
  • your ability to support classmates in their pursuits

The Ross Full-Time MBA curriculum instills the confidence, frameworks, and intellectual dexterity you need to succeed.
You will be challenged. How you respond, and what you choose to tackle, will set the course for your MBA education.

Will you search for a base of the pyramid banking strategy in rural India? Hone your trading skills on our Tozzi trading floor? Develop a business model for a healthcare clinic in Uganda? Discover your leadership potential by participating in the Leadership Crisis Challenge? Or develop investment strategies to manage our student-led funds?

FULL-TIME MBA STUDENTS

You are considered for scholarships when you apply to the Full-Time MBA Program, and you are notified of any award when you are admitted. This applies to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and international students.

  • No separate application is required.

  • Awards are based on academic ability, professional and personal achievements, and potential to contribute to our community.

  • Scholarships range from $5,000 to full tuition.

The Ross Financial Aid office also posts various specific scholarship opportunities throughout the year. Target email notifications will be sent to you when scholarship opportunities are available.

My Scholarship Profile is a form on Wolverine Access where you can submit information about yourself to be used in identifying your eligibility for certain university scholarships. Completing your scholarship profile will not guarantee that you qualify for a specific scholarship, but it ensures that you will be in a pool for consideration.

In addition to these general scholarships, Ross also offers scholarships for admitted students interested in specific areas:

  • The Tauber Institute for Global Operations offers a number of scholarships to students in that program.

  • No separate application is required (although you must be admitted to the program).

  • All students are considered.

  • Award recipients are notified of selection after admission to the program.

  • The Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise offers MBA/MS students funding, awarded both before enrolling at UM (recruitment scholarships) and after joining the dual degree program (various achievement awards and fellowships).

  • For recruitment scholarships, you may apply once you have been admitted to either Ross or the School of Natural Resources and Environment, and have submitted a complete application to the other school. Award notifications are usually made within one month of application.

  • Achievement awards, summer internship support, and fellowships are available to MBA/MS students at various times throughout the three-year program, and most require separate applications.

We encourage you to review the U-M scholarship/fellowship opportunities as well as the private scholarship link, which includes a listing of free web-based scholarship search services.
