Current Opportunities.

Physical Geography

Applicants are invited to apply to work on the projects listed in the table below.

We are also happy to consider supervising candidates on topics of their own choosing. If this is of interest please contact appropriate staff on the list of research expertise in Physical Geography. It is essential to discuss such proposals with potential advisors in advance of applying, to check that we could, in principle, supervise in the suggested area.

Joint Physical-Human projects

Where available, specificied interdisciplinary projects involving both the Human and Physical elements of Geography are listed in the table below. We can also supervise projects in this class, of the candidates own choosing, regarding which, please contact appropriate faculty in advance of application to verify the project's suitability.

Requirements

  • Having consulted the Current Opportunities pages and chosen a research topic, please apply online via the online application form. Please note that applications will not be considered until they are complete and both references have been received. You will be advised how references can be submitted during the application process.
  • As part of your application please ensure that you state the title of the chosen project and the proposed supervisor(s). If you are applying for a project of your own choosing we ask you please to upload a brief research proposal, approximately two sides long, as a "Course Supporting Document" within the application.
  • Please note that an offer of a place does not constitute an offer of funding to support your research. The page on Fees and Funding provides information regarding sources of funding, which cover fees and maintenance.
  • Candidates will need at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree in Geography or a related subject, and offers to final year undergraduates are conditional on this requirement. A strong Masters degree would be an asset to an application, but this is not a necessary criterion.
  • IELTS: Average of 7 or above, with at least 6 in each component
  • Draft your PhD research project proposal
  • Proof of your previous qualifications.
  • Academic references (Two).
  • English language certificate (EU and Overseas applicants).
