The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at University of Southern Denmark focuses its research on:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers a two-year degree programme for international students, leading to the MSc in Molecular bioscience.
The technological and scientific advances move the boundaries for what is academically possible. Human DNA the 3 billion building blocks of life are now known and will come to revolutionise biochemistry and molecular biology. The next challenge will be to map out the function of genes.
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at University of Southern Denmark has accepted this challenge and are among the frontrunners worldwide in the new research area of proteom analysis which is used to map proteins in humans and other organisms.
Research at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Research in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) is basically centred around the fundamental processes which control all life and development of cells. That is, the study of how genes are constructed and organised, how gene activity is regulated and how gene information is translated through RNA to proteins.
Proteins typically function by interacting with other proteins or by interacting and processing small or larger molecules. The study of these processes is included as a crucial element in all research at BMB. The functions of proteins are often regulated by proteins being modified in different ways, and identification of these modifications are likewise a central issue in the departments research.
The departments research is very internationally oriented and is in close collaboration with numerous international research institutes and companies.
Freedom of choice
The first year in the masters programme in Molecular bioscience consists of an experimental core course in advanced protein chemistry and biological mass spectrometry, which can be supplemented with an experimental course in molecular microbiology and/or an experimental course in cloning and characterisation of human proteins.
The programme is known for a large degree of freedom of choice. This gives you the opportunity to specialise according to your interests in all fields within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. It is also possible to specialise in other areas, such as a combination of Molecular bioscience and chemistry.
The last year of the masters programme is dedicated to an individual project, the thesis. During this period, you will be assigned to one of the department research directors.
Graduates who have completed this master programme are entitled to use the title of Master of Science (MSc) in Molecular bioscience.
All courses in the programme are taught and examined in English.

The board of the University of Southern Denmark decides from year to year which study programmes will benefit from the scholarships and the University will recommend the most qualified applicants in these programmes for a scholarship. Therefore it is not possible to apply for this scholarship. If you are a non-EU student and applying for a programme which offers this scholarship you will automatically be considered for it.
BHJ Scholarship
Only available for students applying for a master programme at our Sønderborg Campus
Six one-year scholarships are issued pr. year: three for studies within the technical field i.e. Mechatronics and Innovation & Business respectively, and three are for studies within the field of business administration i.e. Business Relationship Management.
A scholarship of DKK 40.000 may be granted if and when the requirements are met. It is paid in two instalments of DKK 20.000 per semester. The scholarship grant depends on acceptance and enrolment as a full-time student in one of the above mentioned programmes.
