Academic excellence is the foundation of our education. We believe excellence is rooted in a broad awareness of global dynamics and realized by equipping students to solve real problems in real time. By working hand-in-hand with unparalleled faculty and peers, our students develop and implement ideas that challenge the limits of business and create value to change the world for the better.

Our education takes place in a classroom unlike any other at the intersection of world business, policy and culture. We believe in harnessing the energy of global hubs to immerse students in hands-on learning opportunities and give them the resources they need to apply their education and bring their ideas to life.

LAUNCH

LAUNCH is a two-week program that begins with an intellectual summit to explore the intersection of the World, Business and City. The intention: to inspire our students beginning on their first day at Stern to think of the major challenges facing the world, such as climate change, fiscal crises, energy and urbanization, and to expand their view of possibilities--what business can do, and what they can achieve--to create value.

Highlights

  • NYC Harbor cruise & dinner on Ellis Island
  • Global financial markets panel featuring Stern Professors Nouriel Roubini and William Silber
  • Innovative speaker series titled "9" (nine ideas, nine speakers, nine minutes each) conceived by Professor Scott Galloway
  • Reception at the Rubin Museum of Art

1st Year

NYU Stern's MBA program is 60 credits; more than half are electives. To ensure that you have a solid foundation in all areas of business, the majority of your first year is comprised of Stern core courses.

Block Experience

Each class is divided into 6 blocks of 60-70.

Students run for block leadership positions in September. Blocks organize and participate in numerous events throughout their two years at Stern including:

  • Monday Block Lunches: On Mondays, block leaders facilitate discussions and hold meetings with special guests including the Dean and company CEOs.
  • The MBA Challenge: Designed to promote volunteerism, blocks earn points through service events and through donations to the annual Food Fight. The block earning the most points wins money towards their block social funds.
  • Block Olympics: Competing in events including basketball, speed relay, Taboo and volleyball, one block takes home the title of Block Olympic Champion each year.

Within your block, core course study groups of 5-6 students with diverse backgrounds are assigned. You may choose your own study groups for elective classes.

Scholarships

Approximately 20% of admitted Full-time MBA students receive a merit-based scholarship

The majority of Stern MBA scholarships are full or half tuition awards. All applicants (domestic and international) are considered. No additional materials are required. Scholarship decisions are made at the time of admission and are final.

Stern merit-based scholarships awarded to Full-time MBA students include:

  • Dean’s Scholarship – The Dean’s Scholarship is one of Stern’s most prestigious scholarships and is awarded to a limited number of our most meritorious admitted students. This full tuition scholarship, which includes a small stipend, is presented in the name of Dean Peter Henry and affords the opportunity to connect directly with Dean Henry.
  • Named Faculty Scholarship – The Named Faculty Scholarship is designed to pair some of our most meritorious students with some of Stern’s most distinguished and prestigious faculty. This full tuition scholarship matches admitted students based on their background and interests with a designated faculty member in that field. Named faculty scholars have the opportunity to develop close ties to their designated faculty members. This past year, 14 faculty members were selected with the honor of participation: Bruce Buchanan, Aswath Damodaran, Rob Engle, Scott Galloway, Alvin Lieberman, Sonia Marciano, Elizabeth Morrison, Charles Murphy, Glenn Okun, Priya Raghubir, Rob Salomon, Michael Spence, Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh and Batia Wiesenfeld.
  • Consortium Fellowship (a full tuition fellowship awarded in conjunction with a partner organization) – The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management seeks to enhance the representation of African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans in business education and management. U.S. citizens and permanent residents from these underrepresented groups, as well as other people who can demonstrate a commitment to the Consortium's mission, are eligible. Applicants must apply to NYU Stern through the Consortium application to be considered for this full tuition fellowship.
  • Fertitta Veterans Scholarship – The Fertitta Veterans Program is an innovative program specifically designed for U.S. military veterans and active duty students to support their transition to business school. Thanks to the generous gift from alumnus Lorenzo (MBA ’93) and brother Frank Fertitta, the Fertitta Veterans Program participants will receive scholarship support that reduces their tuition to a flat $30,000 per year.  Students who qualify for veterans benefits, including Yellow Ribbon funding, will continue to be eligible to receive those benefits. Learn more about the Fertitta Veterans Program.
  • Stern Scholarship – This one-year scholarship covers full tuition for the first year of study and is awarded to admitted students showing strong merit. This scholarship is awarded for the first year of the program only.
  • William R. Berkley Scholarship – Established in 2013, The William R. Berkley Scholarship Program supports exceptional college seniors who wish to pursue their Full-time MBA at NYU Stern directly following graduation. The scholarship covers the full two-year tuition and fees, provides a housing stipend of $18,000/year, and includes a $10,000/year stipend for books and other expenses.
  • Forté Fellowship (awarded in conjunction with a partner organization) – The Forté Foundation is a consortium of major corporations, top business schools and influential nonprofit organizations dedicated to educating and advancing women in business. Stern designates Forté Fellows at the time of admission to exceptional women candidates who are also receiving a merit based scholarship.
  • ROMBA Fellowship (awarded in conjunction with a partner organization) – Reaching Out MBA (ROMBA) is an organization that educates, inspires and connects lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) MBA students at business schools in the United States.
