The course will challenge you to reflect on your existing practice in relation to current research and contemporary issues surrounding textile design and production. You will be encouraged to develop and realise self-directed projects that address issues in professional, theoretical, ethical, technical or visual aspects of design. Students are supported in all areas of textile practice including print, weave, stitch and CAD.
Design innovation and creative thinking are at the core of the MA Textile Design philosophy and you will engage with students from across the postgraduate community, and in particular MA Communication Design, to share and debate contemporary issues and design opportunities. Taught sessions on research methods, theoretical approaches and business and professional skills are included in the curriculum alongside textiles specific workshops and self-directed project work. Problem solving, experimentation and reflection are key skills that will be nurtured throughout the programme.
Norwich University College of the Arts has a wealth of experience in Textiles and an established reputation for excellence in teaching, research and practice. The MA Textile Design course draws on staff expertise and visiting professional practitioners from the creative and cultural sector.
Applicants may have a background in textile design and wish to advance their knowledge and understanding to a high level or come from a related discipline and wish to build a textiles practice and develop new skills. The course provides a focused opportunity for personal development and will prepare you for a career in the creative industries and higher level study.
