The programme prepare students to handle strategic and cultural aspects of marketing in the global arena and it is also prepare students for further research in international marketing. Lower trade barriers, development in transportation and communication technology are some of the factors that have made it easier to do business abroad. Many companies have taken advantage of the new opportunities, and compete on the international arena, increasing the global competition. This makes international marketing an important issue for many businesses.

It is crucial for a companys international development to gain knowledge about the international environment as well as to evaluate the companys strategic resources. Which markets should the organisation compete on? How should the company deal with different cultures? Which entry modes should the business use on different markets? Should the company adapt to different markets, or standardize and go for a global offer? These are some of the questions that will be dealt with in this programme.

Why study International Marketing in Halmstad, Sweden

Sweden is, as a small country, very dependent on international business. Many Swedish companies have been successful on the international market. Organisations such as Volvo, Saab, Scania, Ericsson, H&M, Electrolux and IKEA are just some of the Swedish names that are dependent on international marketing to succeed. As Sweden is dependent on international trade, research and education in this area has been in focus in Sweden. In Halmstad, however, the focus is not only on large, well established companies but also on new, expanding international ventures. The research in international marketing in Halmstad, which is the basis of this programme, deals e.g. with supply chain management, ethical values, and principles and international growing businesses, so called Born Globals.

Degrees

The program gives the degree Master of Science (one year) in Business and Economics with a major in Business Administration. Specialisation: International Marketing.

The programme has the following structure:

Semester 1 (30 credits) - Fall

* International Marketing Strategy 7,5 credits
* Frontiers of Research in International Marketing 7,5 credits
* Entrepreneurship and Innovation 7,5 credits
* Growth and Business Development 7,5 credits

Semester 2 (30 credits) - Spring

* Research Method 7,5 credits
* Leadership Development 7,5 credits
* Dissertation 15 credits

International Marketing Strategy 7,5 credits

The course is both theoretical and empirical based. The students should learn to solve complex practical and theoretical problems in the area of international marketing. Market choice, foreign market entry strategies and international marketing strategy will be dealt with. Lectures, seminars, and guest lectures from professionals within the marketing field are included in the course.

Frontiers of Research in International Marketing 7,5 credits

The course will provide an analysis of the field, and will also present frontiers of research in the area where Halmstad University and its partners hold a strong position. The students will also be introduced to reading and writing scientific articles in international marketing. The students will be trained to carry out work, independently as well as in group, and to do oral and written presentations.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation 7,5 credits

The course will provide knowledge about entrepreneurship and innovation in start-ups and established firms. Focus will be on (i) identifying business opportunities (ii) acquiring resources (iii) implementation of the business opportunity.

Growth and Business Development 7,5 credits

The course will give the students knowledge about growing firms´ situation. The students will get different theoretical perspectives on growing firms and opportunities to deal with practical problems and opportunities in growing firms.

Leadership Development 7,5 credits

In this course the students are supposed to reflect upon and critically examine their own leadership practice, on the basis of leadership literature. Experienced-based learning will be the primary teaching format. The course also aims to critically analyze leadership and leadership development in general as well as leadership theory. In conclusion, the course involves both the cognitive and the emotional side of the human being.

Research Method 7,5 credits

The aim of the course is that the student shall develop an advanced knowledge regarding qualitative as well as quantitative methods for data collection and analysis. The student shall also obtain a comprehensive knowledge concerning different schools within the theory of science.

Dissertation 15 credits

The dissertation is the result of applied research performed under the supervision of a member of the faculty. The dissertation, which is usually written by two students, is the final phase of the education, where the students should carry out their own independent research project.

Entrance requirement is a Bachelors degree in Business studies equivalent to 180 Swedish credit points or 180 ECTS credits at an accredited university. Basic knowledge of marketing (at least one course of 7.5 credits. The degree should include 90 Swedish credit points in Business Administration and basic knowledge in marketing.Applicants must also have written and verbal command of the English language, equivalent to English course B (passing grade) in the Swedish Upper Secondary School system. English language proficiency equivalent of English studies at upper secondary level (post-16) in Sweden, known as English course B, demonstrated in one of the following ways: * IELTS: score (Academic) of 6.5 or more (with none of the sections scoring less than 5.5) * TOEFL paperbased: score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test and a total score of 575 * TOEFL internet-based: Score of 20 (scale 0-30) in written test and a total score of 90 English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL paper-based test score : 575 TOEFL iBT® test: 90

Each year Halmstad University offers a number of scholarships to qualified students from outside the EU/EEA.These scholarships may be granted to students within any field of study at Halmstad University.

The applicant should be a citizen of a country outside the EU/EES with the requirement of paying tuition fee for studies at Halmstad University except for the following countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Please observe that anyone offered a scholarship has to accept the place at the study program at as well as the scholarship offer from the University.

The scholarship covers part of the tuition fee and will be dedutced from the tuition fee invoice.

The scholarship will not cover living costs and there are no grants for family members.

The scholarship nomination process
Applicants will receive a notification by email on how to apply for a Halmstad University scholarship.

Applicants with a Halmstad University study program as their first choice, will have priority in the nomination.

The committee will award scholarships to students based on academic merits. Usually this is based on GPA but also ranking of the previous university and profiency in English. Halmstad University also favours an even distribution of students when it comes to country of origin and gender.

Halmstad University will notify the recipients of scholarships by email.

The scholarship will initially be granted for one semester, but will be automatically extended for the duration of the study program (2 or 4 semesters) provided that study results are satisfactory.

The Swedish Institute scholarships
The Swedish Institute, a government agency, each year administers over 500 scholarships for students and researchers coming to Sweden to pursue their objectives at a Swedish university. Some programs may have specific scholarships connected only to the program or the subject area. Some of these programs are:

* The Visby Program Swedish Institute Baltic Sea Region Exchange Program. For academic institutions and individuals from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania as well as Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia. Grants are awarded for projects and for individual scholarships.
* Swedish-Turkish Program. For citizens of Turkey pursuing master´s level or advanced level studies in Sweden in the field of social sciences and law, such as International and European Relations, European Affairs, European Law, or Human Rights Law.
* Other scholarships. The Swedish Government offers a scholarship program for students from 12 developing countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
* The Bicentennial Swedish-American Exchange Fund. The Bicentennial Fund is open to applicants from the U.S. and awards grants for two to four weeks´ length in amounts of up to SEK 30.000. It is specifically intended for professional enrichment.
* Pakistan Overseas Scholarship Scheme. This scholarship program is exclusively open to Pakistani nationals aiming to pursue master´s level and PhD studies in Sweden.
* SI Scholarships for East Europe. The program is available for master´s level studies and open to applicants from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova and Serbia.
