In a world of growing media and new technologies the role of communication specialists is rapidly expanding. The MA in Strategic Communication & Public Relations is a professional degree program designed to help prepare a next generation of professionals successfully meet the growing local and global demands for communication expertise.

The program reflects the latest developments in the field while maintain the curricular and educational standards of top American and European graduate programs. By integrating theory with practice and focusing on a real-world approach the program trains students for a variety of positions in private, public and non-profit settings.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, participants should be able to demonstrate:

* A comprehensive understanding of specific media institutions, practices, technologies and artifacts/texts within particular fields of communication.
* Knowledge of key communication theories and the role of the mass media in local, global and multicultural environments.
* Critical skills in assessing an organizations internal and external communication requirements and the ability to research, plan, manage and implement communication programs.
* A range of communication related transferable skills that will allow them to work in creative and independent ways.
* A comprehensive understanding of the changing media systems and the increasing inter-connection of economies and cultures brought about by the rapid spread of technology and information.

Career Prospects
Graduates may be employed in a wide range of professional fields and industries including: public relations, advertising, consulting, broadcasting, lobbying, event planning, fund raising, campaign management, corporate affairs, as well as communication careers in the special fields of tourism, entertainment, and politics. Completion of the degree also allows students who wish to pursue a higher academic degree in communication to continue their studies in their chosen graduate field of interest.

DEREE graduate communication students and alumni benefit both from the ALBA Graduate Business School Services which include: career coaching, participation in career events and workshops, participation in the ALBA annual career forum, one-to-one career advice sessions, direct mail list for job posts and career advice. Students must successfully complete 10 graduate level courses, representing a total of 30 US credits as described below.

Required Public Relations Courses (9 credits):

* Public Relations Strategy
* Crisis Communication Management
* Public Relations and the New Media

Elective Courses(9 credits or 3 courses from the list):

* Communication for the Entertainment Industry
* Intercultural Communication and International PR
* Effective Communication Skills
* Multimedia Applications for Communication Campaigns

Capstone (3 credits):

* Capstone Project in Communication

Flexible Study & Course Duration
The program may be completed in one year (full-time) or up to three years (part-time). Classes run during weekdays, Mondays to Thursdays from 18:00-21:00. New students are admitted at the start of the Fall and Spring Terms.

In order to be considered for entry to the program applicants should be able to demonstrate: * Competence to undertake graduate work: a College or University degree. * Evidence of Proficiency in the English language * Motivation and or Relevant experience to specialize in this area: Evidence of strong motivation to work in communication related areas will be sought in the interview and the personal statement submitted with the application form.
