  • an integrated internship providing you with the opportunity to apply your knowledge
  • the option to acquire an additional Master's degree from selected partner universities
  • an international and personal atmosphere hardly found anywhere else

The programme provides you with an in-depth understanding of financial markets by offering a wide range of modules in the field of finance, including Banking, Corporate Finance, Behavioural Finance, Exchange Rates and International Finance, and many more. Moreover, the programme offers both practical and international experience and prepares participants for careers in the global finance industry.

Educational organisation

The Master's in Finance is offered in two tracks: a 90 ECTS credit track (17-month programme) and a 120 ECTS credit track (21-month programme). The 120 credit track includes a semester abroad at one of WHU's partner universities.

Finance Specialisation Modules
The broad set of finance specialisation modules forms the core of the Master's in Finance curriculum. These modules cover the key financial areas and offer many opportunities to explore the synergies among finance, accounting, and economics.
Modules offered include Banking, Corporate Finance, Asset Management, Capital Market Theory, Corporate Governance, Accounting for Financial Instruments and M&A Transactions, Economics of Financial Markets, and many more. Up to three modules can be chosen from the Master's in Management programme.

General Studies & Capstone Module
Three credits of the programme are dedicated to the general studies module. This module covers topics concerning sustainability in all its facets. Together with the capstone module, it provides the opportunity to integrate acquired knowledge.
The international capstone module (only in the 90 credit track) consists of customised lectures on chosen topics as well as company visits. It includes a trip to one of the business metropolises in America, Asia, or Europe. In the national capstone module for students in the 120 credit track, students will participate in several workshops together with company representatives to work on problem solutions for real-life cases concerning sustainability.

Internship
Practical relevance and exposure to the real business world are key strengths of the Master's in Finance programme. Students are required to complete a minimum six-week internship, allowing them to apply and extend the knowledge acquired during their studies.

Study Abroad
As international exposure is an important element of integrated management training at WHU, students in the 120 credit track will spend one semester abroad at one of WHU's about 200 partner universities worldwide. During this study abroad, students are enrolled in the Master's or MBA programme of the chosen partner university.

Master's Thesis
The Master's thesis concludes the studies, providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate and apply the theory and knowledge they have acquired. Throughout the thesis, students will be supervised by a WHU faculty member. Students may also write their thesis in collaboration with a company.

Double Degree Option
A significant number of our students will choose WHU's double degree option. They will spend two semesters abroad at selected partner universities and earn a full second degree in addition to the MSc degree from WHU.

Study abroad unit(s)

Students in the 90 credit track will participate in an international capstone module that includes a trip to one of the business metropolises in America, Asia, or Europe.
