The China Business and Economics Master of Science programme accepts graduates in Chinese studies who are especially interested in the Chinese economy. It builds on their knowledge of China by offering classes in Chinese studies (MA level) and advanced courses in the Chinese language. Students attend a selection of both Bachelor's- and Master's-level courses at the Department of Economics of the University of Würzburg. They will quickly gain a sound understanding of economics and business administration and specialise in a field of their interest. Lectures and seminars on Chinese economics cover a range of topics such as "Finance and Banking", "China in the Global Economy", "Consumerism and Marketing", or "Challenges of Sustainable Development". Methodological questions of economic research on China are dealt with in special seminars and in case study seminars. In their Master's thesis, students apply their knowledge of languages, research methods, and Chinese economics.

Educational organisation

The programme is organised into four semesters. Students earn 120 ECTS credit points. Students write their Master's thesis during the fourth semester.

Study abroad unit(s)

Students will already have studied at a Chinese university for at least one semester during their BA training. Therefore, no further stay in China is required. Students may, however, take part in the European Chinese Language and Culture Programme (ECLC) at Peking University for one semester if they wish to do so. A stay at another partner university in China could also be arranged.

Internships

Internships are not part of the programme.

Forms of assessment

All modules must be passed in the form of a written or oral examination at the end of each semester. Some courses require additional presentations, essays, translations, or other individual work. There is no further final examination. The final grade is calculated on the basis of the grades reached in all modules and in the Master's thesis.

Course objectives

The China Business and Economics Master of Science programme offers a training focused on research.
