Managers in international business face the particular challenge of being able to fulfil a wide variety of tasks. In addition to having the ability to successfully represent a company in regional locations around the globe, international business managers must be qualified to lead multicultural teams. They must also have the flexibility to adapt to technological change and dynamic consumer preferences.
The curriculum of the BSc in International Management has been specially designed to meet these needs. In addition to a comprehensive business management education, students are offered a number of elective courses that allow them to create an individually tailored curriculum based on their career goals. Internationality is a key focus throughout the study programme. In addition to participating in foreign language courses, students attend one or two semesters abroad in order to deepen their intercultural knowledge and experience. After their six or seven-semester programme, they will have mastered the ability to conduct business negotiations in English as well as in French, Spanish or German, and will be familiar with the particulars of several national markets.
Students learn how to filter relevant data from the flood of information available through modern information and communications technology. They also have the opportunity to participate in numerous practice-oriented projects in which they are challenged to solve real business problems and to demonstrate their ability to work in a team in a structured way. Finally, within the context of compulsory internships both in Germany and abroad, students are offered many opportunities to make professional contacts and to learn first-hand about the challenges of working in an international context.

Educational organisation

During the first three semesters, students acquire fundamental knowledge in core business functions and theories from courses such as Business Administration, Business Mathematics, Financial Accounting, Value Chain Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Rhetorical Skills. Other topics include international management, project management, corporate social responsibility, investment and financing, service management and business law. The curriculum is closely aligned with the employment requirements of internationally networked companies in Germany and abroad.
Bachelor's students have the opportunity to integrate up to two semesters abroad into their study programme. Their fourth semester must be completed at an ISM partner university. Students who decide in favour of the BSc International Management Global Track degree programme spend an additional semester abroad at a partner university in the seventh semester. They all profit from a network of more than 170 universities worldwide. All courses taken abroad are approved jointly by the programme director and the ISM International Office. 50% of the courses taken abroad are programme-specific in order to fulfil the requirements of the study programme; the other 50% are electives. In addition to a deepening of industry knowledge while studying abroad, students gather experience about the economic, political and cultural environment of their host country, while at the same time gaining first-hand insights into different academic systems and methods.
During the fifth and sixth semesters, Controlling as well as General Management are compulsory as are language courses and a workshop. Students can then choose two out of six possible elective modules.
