Human resources management is undergoing tremendous change in the 21st century – moving from a job function that has been mostly transactional and disconnected from core business issues to a vital function that is essential for helping organizations transform business goals and key objectives.

Global volatility, ethical scrutiny, corporate sustainability, emerging web-based technologies and the need for organizations to measure and access the value of human capital activities are just some of the new business challenges. Today’s human resources management practitioners must also:

  • Be global business partners as well as HR innovators, including fluency in finance, economics and various lines of business.
  • Utilize human capital management strategies, including the use of databases, statistical models and analytical skills that help drive key business objectives.
  • Embrace diversity and inclusion management as a tool for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Develop specialized skills as more general practices (payroll and benefits, for example) become automated or outsourced.
  • Meet the critical needs of the business. The Human Resources Management program at the Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies is designed to develop passionate global HR leaders with the specialized skills that today’s businesses and organizations need most.

Who Should Apply?

The Master of Professional Studies program is designed for:

  • Current human resources management professionals who want to continue to grow as strategic executive leaders in their businesses and organizations.
  • Recent college graduates who want to embark on a career as a strategic human resources management business partner.
  • Other professionals, with related people-management experience, who want to become HR change agents.

Specialty Coursework

Students can tailor their studies to emphasize any of the following professional practice themes:

  • Diversity and Inclusion

To earn the MPS in Human Resources Management, students must successfully complete 11, three-credit program courses (33 credits total), including two core courses (Workplace Ethics and Capstone), and three foundational courses (Foundations of HR, Research Process and Methodology, and Human Capital Analytics).

Students also have the opportunity to tailor their studies by pursuing one of five focus areas. The specialty coursework within these focus areas gives students greater flexibility in building a program of study that adequately samples the professional body of knowledge, while at the same time allowing them to pursue selective courses in more specific areas of interest.
