Are you interested in an internationally recognized degree in chemical engineering? Chemical engineering involves the transformation of energy and raw materials into valuable and useful products. Maybe you would like to study topics related to oil and gas processing, or to specialize in CO2 separation?

We offer a two-year international MSc programme with full integration of Norwegian and foreign students where all teaching is in English. All courses are 7.5 ECTS credits and in addition to courses offered by our department, suitable courses from other departments can be chosen. You can choose from a range of specializations:

* Catalysis
* Colloid and polymer chemistry
* Process systems engineering
* Environmental engineering and reactor technology
* Bioenergy and fibertechnology

Job Prospects The candidates are qualified for a range of positions in oil and energy companies, chemical industries, research and development, consulting etc. The studies give you a basis for a comprehensive, challenging and exciting career with a broad spectrum of job possibilities in Norway and across the world.

Study environment The Department of chemical engineering is situated on the Gløshaugen campus close to the Trondheim city centre, together with the other technology and natural science departments. The department is organized in research groups, and after choosing their specialization, the students become part of the corresponding research group. The courses are identical for the international master degree students and the Norwegian engineering students, in a multicultural and friendly study environment.

(1) Optional courses (You have to choose at least 3 out of these 4 subjects):

* TKP4115 Surface and colloid chemistry
* TKP4140 Prosess controll
* TKP4155 Reaction kinetics and catalysis
* TKP4160 Transport phenomena

(2) Process Design, Project is compulsory and can be taken either during autumn or spring semester

(3) Experts in Teamwork is compulsory for all students at NTNU. Read more about Experts in Teamwork.

(4) At least 1 of these 5 courses must be selected:

* TKP4130 Polymer Chemistry
* TKP4135 Chemical Process System Engineering
* TKP4145 Reactor Technology
* TKP4150 Petrochemistry and Oil Refining
* TKP4180 Biofuels and Biorefineries

* TVM4145 Unit Processes in Water and Wastewater Treatment

Learning outcomeThe international Master of Science programme Chemical Engineering recruits students with an international bachelor degree in chemical engineering corresponding to the first three years of the domestic 5-year integrated master degree offered at NTNU.

During the program the students acquire knowledge in several of the following topics, one of which can be chosen for further specialization and master thesis:

* Colloid and polymer chemistry,
* Transport phenomena and reactor technology
* Catalysis and petro-chemistry
* Bio-refinery and fibre technology
* Process control and systems engineering for industrial and biological processes.

Upon completion of the master's degree, the candidates will be able to

* perform a process feasibility study by calculations of mass and energy balances, simpler investment analyses and other process-economic considerations.
* assess the need to implement changes in processing plants by improving unit operations in terms of product quality, environmental impacts and increased production.
* within their area of specialization contribute to innovation and practical implementation of ideas for new chemical processes and concepts in research and industry.
* plan and carry out experimental research within their field of study including necessary risk assessments for health, safety and the environment.

The candidates will be able to

* to work both independently and in teams with technical and scientific problems of high complexity and to put the work into a broader context of industry and society
* communicate efficiently about their own work to the general public as well as to experts by writing well structured reports and contributions for scientific publications and by oral presentations and posters.
* acquire and evaluate relevant information and to read, interpret and sum up scientific literature written in English

For the MSc program in Chemical Engineering a BSc/BEng degree or equivalent (normally 4 years) in chemical engineering with an average grade of C is required.English language requirement: TOEFL (internet based) a minimum score of 90 or IELTS minimum overall Band score of at least 6.5. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL iBT® test: 90

NTNU charges no tuition fees, but regulations from the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration state that

all international students who are not citizens of EU/EEA/EFTA countries must document that they have enough money to live in Norway. For the 2017 intake this amount is NOK 103 950. Successful applicants who are given an offer of admission will later be asked to transfer this amount to NTNU's deposit account.

NTNU offers no scholarships.
