Choosing to study a Master of Laws, or LLM, could give you an advantage in an increasingly competitive market, by providing you with practical and relevant knowledge of the key issues in a specialised area of law.

Our LLM offers a wide range of specialist areas to help you develop your legal skills and knowledge, ranging from Financial Regulation and Compliance to Chinese Business and Investment Law. Choose from over 20 specialist electives to build your own LLM, designed with the needs of practitioners in mind. Each is fully flexible with full-time and part-time study options, meaning that you can undertake an LLM at any time in your academic or professional career.

To qualify with an LLM, students are required to take the module that bears the title of their chosen programme and write a 10,000-word dissertation in the area of their ‘core’ module. In addition, students are required to select three electives. 

Assessment involves the writing of a memorandum of advice on a set topic within each module (worth 30 per cent of the marks for that module) and an unseen examination.

In the case of the LLM in Chinese Business and Investment Law, the LLM in Islamic Finance and Business Law and the LLM in Advanced Islamic Finance and Business Law, students are required to take two-three ‘core’ modules reducing the number of elective modules that can be taken, this includes:

LLM Islamic Finance and Business Law
Students must choose Islamic Business Law and Islamic Finance Law plus two electives)

LLM Advanced Islamic Finance and Business Law
Students must choose Islamic Business Law, Islamic Finance Law and Advanced Islamic Finance and Business Law plus one elective)

LLM Chinese Investment and Business Law
Students must choose is LLM you must choose Chinese Business Law and Chinese Finance and Investment Law plus two electives)

Programme Structure – Online

To apply for the BPP University's LLM you must meet the following minimum admissions requirements:

  • Law degree (including criminology and criminal justice studies) (minimum 2.2); or
  • A degree with some legal/regulatory content and relevance to the programme (minimum 2.2); or
  • Non-law degree (minimum 2.2) and a pass in the GDL or CPE; or
  • Non-law degree (minimum 2.2) and appropriate/ relevant professional experience; or
  • Non-graduates with appropriate professional experience will also be considered
