Even if you are not considering a career as a financial manager, most pathways in business require an ability to use and interpret financial information. This course will give you the knowledge you need to apply accounting principles in a way that enhances business strategies. You will explore the latest theories and current practices, earning to assess them critically.

In this course youll learn the principles of accounting and finance, working in teams that mirror the business working environment. Youll develop critical evaluation skills that will allow you to analyse financial data, with the aim of applying it to your area of business. Teamwork skills will also be emphasised, as you work collaboratively with fellow students experienced in a variety of disciplines. Your research and presentation skills will be developed throughout the taught course and as you prepare for your final dissertation.

Through this course, you'll learn and develop a combination of accounting, finance and other business skills. These include specific accounting techniques and policies relating to corporate finance, tax, auditing, corporate governance and statistics. You'll learn to use relevant IT systems, and acquire relevant knowledge of law, economics and the business environment. The generic skills of time management, project management, communication, collection and management of data, and IT skills will all serve you well in the future, whatever your eventual field of work.

You will be introduced to the role that finance plays in an organisation. You will analyse a company's performance and deal with planning and decision making with particular reference to the budget process and the factors impacting on the short-term decision making in an organisation.
