Jagiellonian University is set in one of Europe´s most exciting and historic university towns. Krakow, one of the most dynamic cultural and artistic capitals in contemporary Central Europe, offers a wonderful environment to study abroad. The new TAS program focuses on the rapidly changing relations between the United States and Europe. Our program is set within Poland´s oldest and most prestigious universities. Our classrooms overlook Krakow´s historic Rynek Glowny, one of the most dramatic university settings in all of Europe.

The Master of Art in TransAtlantic Studies (TAS) is a comprehensive, full-time interdisciplinary graduate program. It is directed primarily to foreign students who would like to study in Krakow. The program, taught entirely in English, focuses on various aspects of transatlantic relations. The graduates will receive a diploma in cultural studies with major in TransAtlantic studies.

Our curriculum includes classes on transatlantic political and cultural relations, the impact of globalization, the sociology of a changing Europe, the challenges of a united Europe, the changing American role in an increasingly multipolar world, as well as electives in comparative literature, Jewish studies, military theory, comparative law, and several others.

Our program is composed of four semesters and each student will complete a master´s thesis upon completion of the program.

Curriculum

The structure of the program is based on the following modules:

1) Compulsory Courses (10 ECTS each)

30 hours of seminars
2) Optional Courses (4 ECTS each)
each course comprises 30 hours of lectures or seminars
3) Research Methods in Cultural Studies (3 ECTS)
30 hours of seminars
4) MA Seminar (8 ECTS)
80 hours in two semesters
5) MA Thesis (20 ECTS)

Applicants will be expected to have earned an undergraduate degree before entering the program. This entails a Bachelor´s degree (or an equivalent) in social sciences, cultural studies, political science, international relations or sociology. It is not absolutely necessary to have a first degree in one of these fields. Those that do not will be asked to display some evidence that they can complete the program successfully.Candidates who are still studying during the admission process may be given a conditional offer subject to the completion of their degree requirements.If the language of your previous university level instruction is not English, you will be asked to demonstrate competence in English.If English is not your mother tongue but your previous program of studies was conducted in English, this might be a sufficient proof of your English proficiency.
