Learning Outcomes

This programme aims to provide students with:

* A critical appreciation of marketing from both academic and practitioner perspectives
* An in-depth and balanced understanding of the theoretical foundations of marketing alongside current and emerging practitioner applications in the applications in marketing management, the analysis of marketing decisions, consumer behaviour and marketing research methods
* The competence and creativity to address marketing and issues through flexible, adaptable and innovative approaches
* An understanding of how to undertake qualitative and quantitative research and apply this knowledge in the context of a major study such as a dissertation
* An opportunity to interact and study with a range of students and to practice multiple management skills, including communication, independent action and teamwork
* An opportunity to develop transferable intellectual and study skills which will encourage a positive attitude to continuing personal development and lifelong learning

The MSc in Marketing runs for one calendar year, starting in mid-September. At the start of the programme, you undertake four core courses in Semester 1. These are the foundation upon which the whole MSc is built and ensures a common basis of knowledge across the different areas.

In Semester 2, you also begin to tailor your studies towards your career interests, through the selection of your four option courses.

Finally, your MSc dissertation brings all of the year's learning together in a piece of work unique to each student.

You can increase your chances of a successful application by exceeding the minimum programme requirements.Academic requirementsYou will need a UK first-class or 2:1 honours degree from a good university in one of the subjects below, or an equivalent overseas qualification.Academic background * An undergraduate degree in a business or management related subject is normally required. * Candidates with degrees in social sciences, communications, public relations and media or arts related fields will also be considered. * Those with a very good Honours degree in other disciplinary areas will be considered provided that they have studied a degree with some marketing related content. * Applications from mature students with significant marketing management experience or acceptable professional qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.The minimum academic requirement is a UK 2:1 honours degree in a related subject or an equivalent international qualification.Some examples of equivalent qualifications: * Canada: mid B+; 3.3+ (4 point scale); 7.3/8+ (9 point scale) * China: 80-85%+; B+ * Germany: 2.5+ (reverse 5 point scale); Sehr Gut/Gut * India: 1st Class degree (60%+) * Nigeria: 2:1 * South Africa: 2:1/1st * USA: GPA 3.25+ (4 point scale)Minimum English language requirementWe require all applicants to meet one of the following English language requirements: * You are a national of a majority English-speaking country as defined by the Home Office. * You have completed an academic qualification at least equivalent to a UK Bachelors degree, which was taught in a majority English-speaking country. * You have or will have achieved the minimum required score in one our accepted English language tests.All tests or methods of assessment must be dated within two years of the start date of the programme.Please refer to the UK Home Office website for a list of majority English-speaking countriesAccepted Secure English Language TestsWe accept results from the following English language tests: * IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 7.0 (with no score lower than 6.0 in each section) * PTE (Pearson Test of English): 67 (at least 56 in each of the "Communicative Skills" sections) * CPE (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English): Grade B * CAE (Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English): Grade A * TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) iBT: 100 (with scores no lower than 20 in each section) English Language Requirements IELTS band: 7 CAE score: (read more) Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) is part of the Cambridge English suite and is targeted at a high level (IETLS 6.5-8.0). The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. Highly Skilled Workforce Scholarships

A number of Highly Skilled Workforce Scholarships are available. Each scholarship will cover full tuition fees for the programme and is available to Scottish-domiciled UK nationals and to all EU nationals. It will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and benefits to the student. Applicants should apply online using the Universitys Postgraduate Masters Online Scholarship Application Form, choosing the UK/EU Master's Scholarships option.

Business School Commonwealth Scholarships

The Business School will offer five scholarships, each with a value of £10,000. The scholarships are available to students who are nationals of Commonwealth countries.

University of Edinburgh scholarships

Edinburgh Global Master's Scholarships

The University of Edinburgh will offer 40 Master's scholarships to students who are nationals of countries outwith the EU for postgraduate study in any subject offered by the University for the 2014-2015 academic session. Fifteen scholarships will have a value of £5,000 each, while a further fifteen scholarships will have a value of £3,000 each. These scholarships will be tenable for one academic year and will be deducted from tuition fees.

UK/EU Master's Scholarships

A number of Master's Scholarships are available for the 2014-2015 academic session at the University of Edinburgh. Scholarships are available to UK and EU students already accepted on a full-time Master's degree programme in any subject offered by the University. The scholarships will cover the UK/EU tuition fee up to £8,100. The award of your scholarship will be automatically deducted from your tuition fee.

Edinburgh Santander Master's Scholarships

Fifteen Edinburgh Santander Scholarships are available to students from eligible countries for postgraduate Master's study in any subject offered by the University. Each scholarship will have a value of £5,000.
