We offer modern, practically oriented, internationally accredited courses in General Medicine and in Dentistry. Our graduates are fully competitive physicians, scoring high in USMLE tests and securing jobs all over the world from the USA to Japan

The curricula of the two study programmes, General Medicine and Dentistry, are identical to those pursued by Czech medical students, apart from being taught in English. They conform to the European Union standards. The six-year General Medicine programme has also been accredited by the USA, Canada and Malaysia, to name only those countries most students come from. The five-year Dentistry course has been offered to applicants since the academic year 2010/2011. During the first three years of both programmes, students have compulsory classes in the Czech language. A good grasp of Czech is required for communication with patients and with colleagues in the wards, such as nurses, who may speak only Czech.

The study of Dentistry is divided into theoretical subjects (Anatomy, Physiology, Histology and Embryology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics), and preclinical and clinical subjects (Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pathological Physiology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry).

The main emphasis is on specialized subjects such as Preventive Dentistry and Cariology, Preclinical Dentistry, Prosthetic Technology, Dental Radiology, Orthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontics, Preservative Dentistry and Oral Surgery. A crucial part of the programme is devoted to practical training. The study plan also includes courses on management, ethics, legislation and social aspects of dentistry. The Dentistry study programme is concluded with final state examinations in Preservative Dentistry, Orthodontics and Prosthetics, and Oral Surgery.

At the graduation ceremony, the graduates in General Medicine and Dentistry are awarded the degree Doctor of General Medicine (Medicinae Universae Doctor, abbreviated as MUDr., equivalent to M.D.) and Doctor of Dentistry (Medicinae Dentium Doctor, abbreviation MDDr.), respectively. Graduates who are EU citizens may then practise medicine or dentistry within all countries of the European Economic Area. Graduates who are not EU citizens practise world-wide in countries where our Faculty is recognized.

Health care

Olomouc provides high-quality health care services through public and private medical facilities. Students may consult several English speaking medical specialists in the main Olomouc Health Centres and in the Olomouc University Hospital.

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the Department of Dentistry offer students on the General Medicine and Dentistry study programmes the opportunity to have preventive dental check-ups twice a year.

We also have a system in place, which, if needed, will provide students with the help of a psychologist; we are also ready to provide services of a dentist, a GP and a gynaecologist. Confidential advice and treatment for psychiatric, gynaecological and similar problems is available in facilities away from the University Hospital.

Each student enrolled into the first year of study is required to go through a medical check-up. This check-up consists of the following steps which the student must complete:

* submission of a doctors report from his/her home country
* a chest X ray
* submission of a urine sample
* provision of information verifying that he/she has been vaccinated against Hepatitis B

If any important vaccinations are missing, the student is obliged to take them at the Palacký University hospital.

After completion of studies, all students must have a repeat medical check-up.
