Whether you are in the early stages of your career or very experienced, this programme is designed for those working in education settings who are taking or developing a management role and those wishing to take the lead in a particular aspect of their practice.

It is suitable for qualified teachers, also other education professionals, such as school bursars, as well as those working in other settings, including the Health, Prison and Museum sectors, and Local Authorities, where there is a focus on training.

The programme is lead by Dr Linda Hammersley-Fletcher, an active researcher who has published a range of articles around school leadership and management. Linda is also the editor of a SAGE journal 'Management in Education' and a member of Council for the British Educational Management, Leadership and Administration Society.

Teaching sessions are highly interactive and encourage you to debate and consider a variety of issues from several perspectives.

* Core Units Dissertation Consists of a 12,000-15,000 word dissertation on a subject of your choice.

Effectiveness and Improvement in Educational SettingsThe unit focuses on effectiveness and improvement in educational settings. Theory, research findings and practical application in organizational settings are brought together. Ways in which to change related to organizational improvement is effectively managed are explored.

Leading Change in Learning OrganisationsThis unit is predicated on the principles that in the context of ubiquitous change organisations must learn in order to survive and that effective leadership enables that learning. The skills and attitudes for the effective change leadership are considered and in relation to the internal and external context of change.

Practitioner Research MethodologyThis Unit looks at the variety of approaches and methods utilised in research and the ways in which these are validated. You will work on developing your skills and understandings about research methodologies and consider best practice in relation to data collection and analysis within the research paradigm adopted.

Resource Management in Educational SettingsThis is normally core unit in the PG Cert in Education Leadership and Management award. The aim of the unit is to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to enable leaders in educational settings to manage people and resources. The unit will provide grounding in the principles of managing of people and resources that are necessary to sustain the efficient and effective organisational performance.



Assessment details
Assessments are based around your workplace and relevant to your own practice. All assessed work is returned to students with both formative and summative comments, which are intended to present clear guidance for future assessment. There are no formal examinations.

You should have an honours degree or equivalent in Education or in a subject area relevant to the discipline you wish to study in. Teachers should have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).Professionals holding qualification gained before the introduction of honours degrees in their initial professional qualification will be considered (e.g. teachers who hold Teacher's Certificates and professionals from health professions holding diplomas) You should be supported by your workplace (or appropriate establishment) in order to be able to carry out any workplace-based tasks, and should be in a position of leadership and/or management, or aspire to have experience of such a position.English language requirementsInternational students will be required to demonstrate a sufficiently high standard of English language ability. In order to enter most postgraduate courses the English requirements are: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 575, TOEFL computer-based 230. Please note some programmes may have higher English language requirements. Applicants who don't meet the English language entry requirements may be able to join an English language course at MMU before starting their postgraduate programme. Our Centre for Academic English offers a range of courses in General and Academic English and it also offers pre-sessional English courses. Courses vary in length from eight to 30 weeks, depending on students' current level of English. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL paper-based test score : 575 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
