Course Content

By focusing on the contemporary challenges and opportunities in building design, you will develop a solid understanding of issues such as:

* The current international challenge to reduce energy consumption;
* The economical need to enhance user comfort in existing and new buildings;
* The opportunities offered by novel materials and structures.

You will be able to use this insight to inform and inspire your design solutions.

This course centres round a series of design projects, through which you may investigate technologies in an interdisciplinary manner to provide innovative solutions that are supported by appropriate technical evidence, testing and modelling.

Typical modules offered on this course currently include:

* Environmental Design in Architecture
* Advanced Environmental Design
* Tall Building Design
* Advanced Structures
* Building Design in Different Climates
* Renewable Energy Technology
* Computer Modelling and Presentation

Please note that all module details are subject to change.

You will spend the summer semester producing a supervised dissertation - this will be an in-depth study of an individually determined topic and is your opportunity to conduct a major piece of independent research that reflects your interests and aspirations.
