Course length
Full-time: MSc: 12 months, PGDip: 12 months, PGCert: 12 months
Part-time: MSc: up to 3 years, PGDip: 12-18 months, PGCert: 12 months

This course offers you the opportunity to understand the changes that have taken place in health and social care policy and the operational environment at local, national and international levels. It will challenge you to realise your potential and:

* build your knowledge of the core functions of management and leadership including developing service redesign and business plans, and building skills for operational management of resources
* examine policy and strategy in a variety of health and social care settings
* understand and apply social and economic policy
* gain and apply research skills
* expand your networks.

The course seeks to develop your knowledge, skills and experience as team leader and manager of resources and strategic policy, allowing you to contribute to the formation of corporate policy. We will help you develop the skills needed to plan, implement and evaluate projects and to develop competence in the practice setting based on the management charter initiative.

The course is offered at three levels: a postgraduate certificate (PGCert), a postgraduate diploma (PGDip) and as a masters degree (MSc).

The PGCertis based on the completion of the following single modules:

* P44820 Leadership in Health and Social Care or P44816 Human Resource Management in Health and Social Care
* P44811 Operational Management in Health and Social Care
* P44813 Finance in Health and Social Care.

The PGDip is based on the completion of three modules listed above, plus the following single modules:

* P49210 Advanced Research Design
* P44820 Leadership in Health and Social Care or P44816 Human Resource Management in Health and Social Care

Plus one acceptable single module selected from the postgraduate course portfolio. For example: community action, epidemiology, ethics, evaluation or statistics.

The MSc is based on the completion of the modules listed under PGCert and PGDip plus the following triple module:

* P49215 Dissertation or P44812 Project Management *

* Project Management is only available to students employed in health or social care within the UK.

Teaching, learning and assessment
We use a range of innovative learning and teaching methods, for example seminars and learning sets and blended and online learning. Study for each single module taken will amount to 200 hours over the semester. Teaching is normally half a day every other week and sessions are normally delivered in the mornings and afternoons. Online learning activities may be included for alternate weeks. Our philosophy is to promote management and leadership competency through better understanding of the self, the organisation and the working environment.

We also aim to help make a difference to your organisation through the application of learning and evidence-based management to your work. Therefore assignments use real workplace issues to add value, and maximise benefits and time.
