The course offers advanced topics in Computing Science to existing graduates in Computing or a strongly-related discipline. The degree provides the opportunity to extend undergraduate skills into up-to-date specialist areas of Computing such as Data Mining, Web System Development and Intelligent Systems.

You will become a practitioner in the specification, design and implementation of advanced information systems, and will learn to access, critically appraise, apply and disseminate state-of-the-art knowledge in the topics covered in the course. You will gain advanced skills in specialist areas of Computing Science that are useful and sought after in the computing industry.

In the full-time mode you will have the opportunity to apply for an industrial placement. Applications will be reviewed and student interviews held to select suitable candidates for the placements available. The paid placement runs for up to 45 weeks and students are supported by staff within the company and a supervisor from the School of Computing and Digital Media.

This course is ideal for students who possess an honours degree in a Computing discipline or an honours degree in another discipline with significant computing content.All international students, for whom English is not their first language, must provide evidence of linguistic ability, by gaining either IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent in TOEFL prior to receiving an unconditional offer of a place on the course. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL iBT® test: 90 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan
Applicants (Scottish domiciled and EU) to this course may be eligible for a Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan (PTFL). Full-time students can apply for a PTFL up to £3400. Part-time students can apply for up to £1700. The tuition fee loan is only available to part-time students who are undertaking at least 50% of a full-time course, and therefore, complete their qualification in 2 years.

Accreditation

If you choose the full-time mode of study you will be open to apply for a placement.

You will be provided with Placement Guidelines and company policies and procedures as required. At the end of the placement period you will complete a module report and give a demonstration of the work undertaken whilst on placement. Successful completion of the placement and the report gains the award of 120 credits. These credits cannot be used to compensate for any credits from the taught subjects.

Successful completion of the placement is not required for progression to the MSc Stage. In Year 2, Semester 3, you will return to the School to complete the MSc Project modules.

This course is fully accredited by the British Computer Society.
