In recent years, both small and large businesses have become project-based, and as technological developments are matched with new products and processes across all major industries, the markets these organisations work in become ever more competitive and complex.
This course is designed to offer you high quality academic education and practical tools and skills to meet this challenge. It is taught by leading academic staff together with practitioners and industry experts. The course is suitable for graduates from a range of backgrounds interested in a career which will involve managing projects, from fashion and film professionals to those in the charity sector and from scientists to government employees. It will equip you with the interdisciplinary project management skills which your future career path could depend on.
The duration of the course is 12 months. You will take ten taught modules, attend various seminars/workshops and complete a project/dissertation. Each term comprises five taught modules.
Core Module 1: Introduction to Project Management in a Strategic Management Context: Tools and Techniques
You will gain a full understanding of the tools, techniques and body of knowledge involved in each stage of the project management life cycle: project initiation, planning, execution, control and closure, as required by the Project Manager, in the context of strategic management and planning.
Core Module 2: Operations and Quality Management
You will explore the management of processes and operations, procurement, supply chain management and operations strategy. You will learn about the importance and role of quality planning, quality control and quality assurance, Japanese Lean Production methods and Kaizen continuous improvement activities.
Core Module 3: International Accounting and Finance
You will be provided with a comprehensive understanding of different accounting standards, conventions, formats and practices. You will learn how to analyse a firm's annual report and financial statements as well as learning about ratio analysis, trend analysis, application to financial data, accounting policies and performance management, cash-flow management, valuation techniques (e.g. IRR, NPV, EVA etc.) and management decision analysis.
Core Module 4: Information Technology Project Management
This course aims to provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge of managing and delivering IT projects, and skills to design, implement and evaluate enterprise systems.
Core Module 5: International Strategic and Technology Management
You will gain an understanding of the theories, concepts and tools of building a business strategy aligned to a technological strategy, and, you will be able to apply these theories to a variety of business environments including mobile phones ,computers and fashion. You will have the opportunity to dissect business strategy and tactics and deliver your analysis to business clients. You will use case-studies of leading technology corporations and will become familiar with the scientific and technological revolutions of the 21st Century.
Business Research Methods
You will attend lectures to gain an understanding and application of the basic principles underlying good business research methodologies, for instance relevant interviewing and questionnaire survey techniques to gather and analyse data. You will be able to devise and critically assess various research designs, and explain, produce and display findings from various data sets.

Core Module 6: Advanced Applied Project Management and Planning
This course provides you with the theoretical, technical and practical issues of planning and executing a project. These will include estimating time-scales, resource, costing, earned value methodology and utilising case studies and simulations of project management in specific industries.
Core Module 7: Advanced Project Funding, Finance and Risk Management
You will gain understanding of the theoretical aspects and practical issues in project finance, establishing funding and alternative funding of projects, corporate finance, risk management of complex and infrastructure projects, technology risk, private and public partnerships finance with use of case studies and practitioners.
Core Module 8: Corporate Governance, Ethics and Sustainability
You will explore corporate governance in modern organisations, including agency stakeholder and stewardship theories. The role of stakeholders, board of directors, internal and external auditors. CSR will be looked at and its role in managing relationships and stakeholders as well as economic and social and environmental impacts. The impact of climate change and sustainability in managing projects and organisations: the protection of the environment, maximise benefit to communities, minimise adverse effects, deliver projects that assist sustainable living processes.

This course aims to provide you with an in depth understanding of the complex nature and specific risk elements present in managing and financing projects in the creative industries, specifically the TV and film industries.

This module provides you with a deep understanding of the technological and business upheavals in the music industry and emerging delivery platforms . Moreover, it delves into the evolving social media platforms and their business , marketing and advertising implications .

Core Module:Business Research Project
You will undertake a Masters level thesis on a project management topic, 15,000 words. Submission in September 2015. Linked to Business Research Methods in Term 1.
On completion of the course graduates will have:

* In depth knowledge on the sources and types of finance necessary for the management of both large complex engineering and construction projects as well as smaller projects in the creative and entrepreneurial sectors.
* In depth understanding of the importance of effective and continuous management of operations , quality control, risk management in supply chains and the rising importance of climate change and sustainability issues.
* In depth knowledge of the specific issues , risks and complexities of designing and implementing projects in the creative industries including film production, film studio management , tv production , music, social media and advertising.
Universities in the United Kingdom use a centralized system of undergraduate application: University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). It is used by both domestic and international students. Both undergraduate and graduate students may receive three types of responses from the university. The first one, “unconditional offer” means that you already reached all requirements and may be admitted to the university.
