This is an education for students wanting technical specialist competence, research experience and better career opportunities after their education. The programme requires a previous education in the computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or information and communication technology fields. During the studies you will be in direct connection with the University's research since the teaching is carried on by active researchers. Many of the courses are project based and give the opportunity to study international research. The thesis work is done in the fourth semester. Most students then cooperate with one of our research groups, in many cases with industrial connection. There is also the opportunity to do a thesis work with innovation profiling.
The programme is offered in English.

As a student in this programme you choose one of the following specialisations:

* Communication systems, focusing on communication in real-time computer systems. Core subjects are Computer networks, Real-time communication, and Wireless communication.

* Embedded systems, dealing with new methods in computer architecture, particularly co-operating embedded systems. Core subjects of this specialisation are computer architecture, system-on-a-chip design and programming for embedded systems.

* Intelligent systems, focusing on how to create autonomous and self-regulating computer systems. Core subjects are artificial intelligence, image- and signal analysis, control theory and techniques for sensoric and motoric systems.

Degrees

The degree is 120 credits. For obtaining the degree is required that the prerequisites of the programme are fulfilled and in addition to this that at least 120 credits have been obtained following the directions in the Study Programme.

Upon completion of the degree programme, a degree certificate will be issued bearing the degree programme title in Swedish: Teknologie masterexamen med huvudområdet datateknik. In English: Degree of Master of Science (Two Years) with a major in Computer Science and Engineering.

In the degree certificate is also stated the specialisation of the education: Embedded and Intelligent Systems.

The scholarship nomination process
Applicants will receive a notification by email on how to apply for a Halmstad University scholarship.

Applicants with a Halmstad University study program as their first choice, will have priority in the nomination.

The committee will award scholarships to students based on academic merits. Usually this is based on GPA but also ranking of the previous university and profiency in English. Halmstad University also favours an even distribution of students when it comes to country of origin and gender.

Halmstad University will notify the recipients of scholarships by email.

The scholarship will initially be granted for one semester, but will be automatically extended for the duration of the study program (2 or 4 semesters) provided that study results are satisfactory.

The Swedish Institute scholarships

The Swedish Institute, a government agency, each year administers over 500 scholarships for students and researchers coming to Sweden to pursue their objectives at a Swedish university.
