The principal aim of the MSc in Finance is to develop an understanding of a broad range of financial concepts and their application to a range of management and organisational contexts.

Specifically you will be provided with a stimulating and intellectually challenging learning experience, along with rigorous education in the concepts of financial management and accounting and general management tools.

Teaching and assessment methodsAs a distance learning student you will be supported by a dedicated team of tutors and support staff. Studying away from the campus is enabled through bespoke module study books - available in hard copy and electronically - and Blackboard, our virtual learning environment.

You will be assessed at the end of each module either by a piece of written coursework or by examination. Exams are usually held in the UK on a Saturday (exam days in other countries may vary). If you do not live close to one of our regular exam venues we can arrange for you to take the exam in a local city for a nominal administrative charge.

Students based in the UK are expected to travel to Leicester to take their exams.

You will study seven core modules and then choose two elective modules, followed by Research Methods and a 15,000 word dissertation

We have 23,000 full-time, part-time and distance learning students. Of the 12,600 full-time students, around 24% come from outside the European Union, from a total of more than 70 countries.

The University occupies an attractive campus close to the centre of Leicester, just 160km or 70 minutes train journey from London.

Leicester offers a wide range of catered and self-catered University-managed accommodation to suit all tastes. We guarantee accommodation to all new students who apply before specified deadlines. The city also offers a good supply of private sector accommodation.

The University Library has been completely refurbished and extended as part of a £300 million campus development plan, and was opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 2008.

Other campus services include restaurants, a bookshop, sports facilities and a health centre. Our newly-redeveloped Students Union includes a 1,750-capacity entertainment venue, shops, cafes, a bank and a student advice centre.

Our International Student Advisers provide specialist information and professional advice on many issues, including visas, immigration, banking and finance, while our Careers Advisers can give guidance on your chosen career and help with your initial job search.
